About Apex Predator

Apex Predator provides professional driver coaching and consultation to racing drivers who want to improve their craft.  Whether a new racer or a seasoned veteran, Apex Predator can help you maximize your driving, race-craft, and improve your off-track presence.

Formed in 2016 by national karting champion and seasoned racecar driver Eric Gunderson,  Apex Predator strives to improve client’s driving ability at an affordable price point.

Since inception, “AP” has continued to push to boundaries of driver development, utilizing the latest technology and tools to aid in this pursuit. Further expansion into the realm of media, community engagement, and even advocacy for regional motorsport has followed as a natural progression from the core vision of Apex Predator.

Our Vision

Media

Apex Predator Driver Development is more than just a driver coaching service organization. At AP, we believe that to grow our own business, we must be active in growing and advocating for motorsport itself. Primarily, AP currently guides this focus towards the performance karting market.

To this end, AP and affiliated media has spawned several projects, including our primary project, The Colorado Karter.com:

The Colorado Karter.com

Since 2003, The Colorado Karter has been Colorado’s premier source for unbiased information about the kart racing community within the State of Colorado. The Karter also serves as a platform to further the promotion and growth of the sport of karting.

Primarily, the karting community within Colorado consists of multiple local kart racing series, a handful of performance kart racing tracks, key vendors and support shops, a dedicated group of volunteers, and several hundred members of the Colorado community that either race, support, or participate in karting activities.

The Karter is not intended to be a national karting news site. Although The Karter recognizes many racers within Colorado can and do compete at national-level races, it is our belief that this website should primarily focus on the growth and promotion of a local-level, fundamental karting community. Because of this, much of the content will not focus on “national” level karting events, unless they venture into our state. While The Karter is focused on karting activity within Colorado, outside series, clubs, and members are welcome and encouraged.

Acquiring the website in 2017, Apex Predator launched a complete re-vamp of the entire resource, updating website links, resources, and even incorporating additional media avenues such as how-to videos, resource aggregation, and more partnered content in the form of written and visual media.

Media Consulting

For several years, AP has focused outside of the at-track realm with motorsports-oriented organizations. From public press releases, to graphics creation, to even compiling event recaps and special guest feature pieces, AP media has grown progressively into a comprehensive producer of motorsports-oriented content, for clients such as The Colorado Karting Tour, Evinco Tire, and MJB, Inc.

Future Projects

In the near future, AP will continue to develop these media projects, as well as find ways to bring additional media formats such as podcasts or advanced video production to larger audiences outside of the general sport of kart racing.

Community

Our team recognizes that the motorsports community is larger than ourselves or our primary clients. As such, AP has worked hard to create platforms and foster group engagement through services external to our primary business model. In particular, the acquisition of the neutrally-grounded and community-focused website The Colorado Karter.com has tasked us with the care and observation of a community that houses both our primary service clients and their competitors.

To us, this is the next step in bringing motorsports competition to a larger audience, and therefore a larger market for ourselves and additional parties: Setting aside the in-fighting found in so many motorsports-oriented businesses, and looking at the bigger picture. At AP, we are advocates for the community of motorsports enthusiasts above all else.

Members of our team donate their time to this continued community advocacy. By providing our ‘karting consultation’ clinics to newcomers of the sport, as well as administrative work with organizations such as The Colorado Karting Tour, The International Karting Federation, and KartPulse, our team is able to extend beyond our normal clientele to interact with those that are continuing to evolve their understanding of the sport we believe so much in.

At Apex Predator, our team continues to evolve how driver development is taught, understood, and articulated to our clients. From finding new tools to ad to our coaching regimen, to evaluating tools in development, AP continues to experiment and research the art of driver coaching.

Research and Development

Apex Predator Driver Development has been involved in a variety of R & D roles throughout the organization’s history, working with the following:

RacePak Vantage: Product Testing & Development

At the time of release, the Racepak Vantage CL1 system is one of the most interesting and dynamic data acquisition tools on the modern market. Through engagement and development work at KartPulse, Apex Predator was able to obtain a CL1 package to test, and thorough evaluation yielded interesting opportunities for implementation, as well as areas for continued development for the testing package.

Kart Pulse: Content Implementation and Media

As the nation’s largest online karting-specific discussion forum and information site, the KartPulse forums are continually evolving as the sport evolves in lock-step. Often one of the most dynamic communities among motorsports, the KartPulse community has served to educate AP on the process of interaction among media platforms, the challenges faced by racers across various regions, and the common values that drive members of the motorsports community to engage in an online space.

Specific project involvement with KartPulse includes serving as a forum moderator, ‘virtual coach’ resource, article contributor, and also as beta tester for new graphic displays, interaction models, and social media campaigns such as KP’s “Week in Karting” Facebook Live Show.

Colorado Karting Tour:  Process Refinement, Media, Community

As a role still in use, Eric Gunderson’s role with The Colorado Karting Tour continues to evolve with each year, delivering AP insight into how the general public perceives the sport of kart racing, and how the sport and industry continues to develop.

Currently, Eric Gunderson serves CKT as the Director of Raceday Operations. From media, communication, to race team management, CKT has thrown it all at our team at AP. In previous roles, Gunderson has served as head flagman, grid marshal, and race director for the traveling regional racing series.
